Jill (Spadorcia) McGinnity, Head Coach
In her first season as Head Field Hockey Coach at SSC, Coach McGinnity led the team to a tournament berth for the first time since 2003. The team more than doubled its wins while increasing their goals for percentage and lowering their goals against percentage. The final regular season record was 7-9, showing definite improvement from the previous season's of 3-13. The team eventually lost to the League champion in the playoffs by a score of 1-0. The team was awarded one all-star from the Little East Conference for the first time since it joined the conference and three all-stars for the MASCAC first team for the first time since the mid 90's. The Vikings enjoyed two huge milestones in defeating LEC rivals Bridgewater State and Plymouth State College.
Jill has experienced much success in her past 10 years of coaching. She has spent 8 years as the head coach at Bishop Fenwick High School, tallying an overall record of 114-22-16 including tourney play. Almost 50% of her players have gone on to play at Division I, II and III schools, including one who reached Olympic team status. She led the Crusaders to 8 consecutive tournament berths. Seven of those seasons Bishop Fenwick ranked in the top five of Division I North, and 6 seasons her team enjoyed the best record in their league. Last season was her most successful, leading the all-rookie team to the third round in the state tournament. Prior to Bishop Fenwick, McGinnity was assistant coach at Endicott College and Danvers High School.
McGinnity is a former scholarship player at U-Mass Lowell and a Salem State graduate who made her mark on the field hockey program. She was elected captain both her junior and senior years, league all-star all three seasons, team MVP her junior year, and MASCAC player of the year nominee in her final season. She was also the team's leading scorer and in the MASCAC top five each season for point leaders. Jill also played for the Lady Vikings softball team in the mid 90's.
Salem State field hockey was a MASCAC powerhouse in the 80's to the mid 90's. The Lady Vikings made 6 NCAA appearances in 9 years and won 9 MASCAC titles from 1980-1995. As the head coach, McGinnity is looking forward to bringing back the success of the past.
