A well-known and much-respected political commentator, George Will is familiar to many Americans through his bi-monthly back-page essay in Newsweek magazine, a regular feature since 1976. His twice-weekly Washington Post column, syndicated since 1974, appears in approximately 500 newspapers throughout the United States as well as in Europe. Prior to his work for the Washington Post, Will served as Washington editor for the conservative National Review.
Recognized as an erudite writer, Will often weaves references to baseball and philosophers into his columns on foreign and domestic politics and policy. Among his numerous books are two best-sellers on baseball, eleven books on his collected columns, and three on political philosophy.
A founding panelist on ABC television's This Week with David Brinkley, George Will has served as a news analyst for the station since the early 1980s. During the 1970s, he was also a regular panelist on NBC's Meet the Press.
In addition to his 1977 Pulitzer Prize for commentary, Will is the recipient of a 1978 National Headliners Award for his "consistently outstanding special features columns" appearing in Newsweek. A column on New York City's finances earned him a 1980 Silurian Award for Editorial Writing. In 1985, The Washington Journalism Review named Will "Best Writer, Any Subject."
