Web Development

The Information Technology Office of Web Development oversees all administrative web development initiatives across the College. The primary mission of the College website is to promote College activities and educational opportunities by providing current, accessible and effective interactive communication with the goals of assisting and building broad based support for the College's mission.

The Web Team works cooperatively with the College community to create new webpages and maintain existing pages. If you are interested in creating or updating a webpage on the Salem State College website, please submit a Web Project form with the details of your project.

Web Team Projects

In addition to daily site maintenance, the Web Team designs and develops web-based tools and systems that enable content providers to utilize existing data from official College databases, and post additional content as appropriate.

2007-2008 Web Redesign Work with BigBad, Inc. to reorganize and redesign the Salem State College website in progress
Employee Management System (EMS)EMS was developed to allow Human Resources and department supervisors to maintain a 'local' list of employees, that can then be used by all administrative areas to ensure that usernames are appropriately provisioned and that resources are provided as needed. The information collected and maintained through this system is utilized by numerous college systems, including; PeopleSoft, ClipperCard, Best Security, ITRM (inventory).Implemented

Web Profile Editor Using the Web Profile Editor, employees can post their professional profile to the Web without the aid of special software or web design skills. Implemented

Web Calendars   initial planning
SSC-TVThe current release of the SSC-TV system was intended as a proof of concept only. A project plan was to be developed once policies were implemented. The current system is integrated with the School Closing/Emergency Notification System.in development
Campus Tour Registration System Prospective students can register online, receive email confirmation, door to door driving directions, and can edit or cancel as needed. Administrators can track and print list of attendees, cancel tours, and email any or all attendees by date of tour. Implemented

ITRMThe Information Technology Resource Manager (ITRM) was developed in conjunction with User Support, I.T. Purchasing, and Tech Services personnel, to use EMS data to track computers and other equipment assigned to a position. Future upgrades would include the ability to track all assigned resources (keys,cards,3rd party system access), as well as security profiles, and software image required.Implemented

Event Registration Systems ongoing
Athletics Content Management This system provide Athletics with the power to author news stories as well as manage and administer rosters, team schedules, statistics, scoreboards and athlete profiles. Implemented

Extensis Portfolio ongoing
Music Library Database The Music Library Database puts all holdings in the music library online. In the future, records will be added and removed to this system by an administrator and students will be able to check out or hold records for use online. in development
SSC Phonebook The Phonebook module organizes all employee phone information and creates an updated phonebook in both print and web form. in development
Student Employee Time Clock This module was created to allow students to track their time working in SSC computer labs. The system tracks the lab location the student works in as well as the number of hours. An administrative section tracks time worked in labs and generates reports. phase one beta released
Virtual Tour   initial planning
Campus News System The news system will allow department web managers to post news to their own site and to request that the same news story be posted to other 'sites', including the main SSC news page. in development
Emergency Evacuation and Operation Plan Working in conjunction with the Office of the Vice President of Student Life, The Emergency Evacuation and Operation Plan was developed to provide emergency egress information via the Web. Although this project was initialy intended for delivery only on the web, it has since been determined that a printed component is also needed. This project is pending. Implemented

FIN Conference Management System The conference registration system allows attendees to register for specific sessions and print their personal agenda, and enables conference coordinators to track attendees and print session rosters. Completed
SSC Destination Survey The annual survey of recent graduates conducted by the Career Services office was developed as an online survey. Respondents were matched against a list provided through PeopleSoft to minimize manual data entry and facilitate better tracking. Completed

Online Course Details This system combines PeopleSoft course data, SSC employee profile data with course details provided by professors. Professors at SSC with online courses can login to this system and add extra course details such as syllabus, required software and special course instructions. Completed
Job Manager Job Manager is a web-based job posting system that enables the Human Resources department to enter new positions via a secure online form, print a copy for inter-campus distribution, and specify a date that the job will be automatically released on both the College website and BostonWorks.com. Completed
SGA Voting A system was developed that allows the SGA to create their own ballots and specify the dates to hold the election. This system has numerous security features to ensure a fair and secure election and relies on the authentication provided by the Navigator portal. If desired, this system can also provide real-time results of the election. Completed
Campus Maps The initial phase of this project calls for a simple static map to replace the out-dated campus map currently in use on the web and in print. Eventually, this map should be extended to provide additional web-based functionality. in development
On-Campus Emergency Notification System This system allows employees to securely log in to provide personal phone numbers and email addresses that they would like to be called in event of an emergency. This system is integrated with the Telecom Directory Manager to provide all of the on-campus phone numbers, so that employees are not required to enter their own work numbers. It is also able to interface with the Connect-ED system, which performs the emergency announcements, to update the information on an almost real time basis, if desired. The integration with Connect-ED is a completely automated process that removes the need for any manual interactions. Completed
School Closing/Emergency Alert System (web and SSC-TV) This secure web interface allows Public Safety and other administrative personnel to post school closing messages and emergency notification messages to both the SSC homepage and all of the LCD screens across all campuses from within a single system. Future enhncements could include; opt-in email or text messages for school closings, links and instructions for related systems (Connect-Ed, email, Audix). Implemented
