We continue our 20th anniversary celebration of the music major with "The Ballad of Tam Lin", a folk-rock opera by Molly Pinto Madigan '13.

In addition to Madigan, this performance will feature SSU music alumni PJ Holaday, Zach Bridges, Madeleine Downs, Briana Paquin, Elizabeth Anderson, TJ Gansneberg, and Chris Bodek. They will be joined by Chaz Smith, Alec Hutson, Sam Margolis, and Jay DiBiasio.

The opera loosely retells the ballad of the same name - a traditional Scottish song with drama, mystery, romance, suspense, and supernatural elements. The story is told in 25 individual songs with each character voiced by a different singer. While each number has its own story arc, the pieces come together in an epic tale.

Admission is free. Donations at the door are welcome to support the work of the music department.

MOLLY PINTO  MADIGAN

Hailed for her angelic voice and haunting compositions, Molly Pinto Madigan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in music from Salem State University, where she was named “Artist of the Year,” as well as receiving the university's first dual Creativity Award in both music and creative writing. Since her debut as the lead singer for the teen bluegrass band Jaded Mandolin, Madigan has submerged herself in the dark, luscious world of ballads, and her original songs echo with the whisperings of the American and European traditional music, combined with a fresh and modern lyricism. A three-time recipient of Club Passim's prestigious Iguana Music Fund, Molly just released her sixth studio album, "Romeo and Juliet in the City." In her free time, Molly enjoys writing novels and competing as a ballroom and Latin dancer.
