Friday, October 20-Sunday, October 29 | Sophia Gordon Center
August Strindberg’s The Ghost Sonata relates the adventures of a young student, Arkenholz, who idealizes the lives of the residents of an opulent apartment building. He makes the acquaintance of a mysterious man who helps him find his way into the building, where he meets the inhabitants-the colonel; his wife, their beautiful daughter, the Young Lady, and the Mummy; as well as various guests and servants. Arkenholz soon discovers that the house he admired from afar is a nest of betrayal, deceit, corruption and misery.
Half in the real world and half in a psychological netherworld, the play explores the extreme grotesque side of the human psyche and a ceaseless desire for acquiring “more”, no matter what the cost.
