Artist Statement

"When trying to think about a theme for my exhibition, I tried to think of something that not only tied all my work together, but also touched on why I create what I do the way I do it. I realized very quickly that what motivates me to work is the joy and peace I feel while trying out different materials and working on even the smallest doodles. Ever since I was a little kid, I have always felt a sense of stillness and peace while scribbling, doodling or creating, which is why I decided to title my show “Joy in Creation”.

For this body of work, I brought together several ballpoint pen artworks of various sizes that I have created over the past few years. With these, I’ve included several prints I have made during my work as a printmaking concentrator and a few recent paintings. Everything I decided to put in this show has brought me some sort of joy or peace in the process of creating them. Being able to bring all these together and share them with those around me is a huge honor and I am so grateful to have the opportunity."

About the Artist

"I grew up in Middleton, Massachusetts along with a twin sister and older brother. I started taking art classes at 8 years old after always being interested in drawing. Once I reached my junior year of high school, I started taking medication for anxiety and depression and started coming out to more people in my life as myself. This was the boost I needed to start putting more and more effort into art, as well as taking art, and myself, more seriously.  Taking different art courses at Salem State with such talented and cool professors has been such a great experience and I have learned so many things. In my final semester here, I cannot think of a better way to end it then with my honors in art exhibition. I cannot wait to create more. "

The Winfisky Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10am - 4pm.
