Open to All SSU Students

What: We seem to have a titanic love affair with plastics. Their creation began as a means of making our lives easier. The use of plastics and their immense proliferation has become a detriment to both us and our environment.

After gathering information about plastic, its impact on our lives and effect upon the environment, students in Professor Ken Reker’s Form and Design classes are fabricating sculptural works using found objects, plastic and petroleum-based products, and consumer refuse.

When: These artworks will be displayed during the poster session on opening day of the 2025 Earth Day Celebration on Monday, April 7 from 11 am-12 pm in Vets Hall, ECC. Cash prizes are offered for winning pieces.

You can participate too! This project is open to any student in the SSU community who would like to participate with a sculpture. Please contact Ken Reker at k_reker@salemstate.edu for additional information.
