Salem State’s Summer Orchestra will present a free concert under the direction of SSU music professor Mary-Jo Grenfell. This event is free.

The program is a musical travelogue to several countries:

Finland-Metalfare by Ilari Hykilä

Peru-El Condor Pasa (Peruvian Folk Song) arr. Gary Robert Buchanan

Korea-Variations on a Korean Folk Song by John Barnes Chance, arr. Robert Longfield

England-Five Variants on Dives and Lazarus by Ralph Vaughan Williams (strings only)

England-Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger, ed. Dana Paul Perna

This concert will also include performances by a string chamber ensemble and a flute ensemble.

This performance will be dedicated to the memory of Susie Field, a long-time participant in the Salem State University Chamber Orchestra and Summer Orchestra who passed recently.

The Salem State Summer Orchestra provides an enriching experience and opportunity for musicians to read, rehearse, and perform music from the symphonic and chamber repertoire. The ensemble is a community orchestra comprised of intermediate and advanced musicians. The participants meet to play orchestral music, and also have an opportunity to form chamber ensembles with other members of the ensemble. This community ensemble is available at no cost and there is no audition required.
