The Mary G. Walsh Writing Center and the Center for Research and Creative Activities are pleased to co-sponsor another full year of programming to support faculty in achieving their writing goals. We have designed a variety of opportunities among which you can select those that will best help you achieve your individual goals.
Just Write
Year-long. Beginning September 27th and meeting every Tuesday, 12-1 pm.
These informal weekly writing sessions, which can be attended remotely or in person, offer dedicated time for faculty to focus on writing with their colleagues. Participants will check in, briefly, by introducing themselves, their writing projects, and specific goals for the session (and, if they want, for the year). Then, they will just write. Drop in when and as you can. To participate, simply email ssu-research@salemstate.edu with "Just Write" in the subject line, and we will send you the Zoom link for the year.
Finish It This Academic Year
October 12-April 12, meeting every other Wednesday, 12-1 pm.
In the spirit of Wendy Laura Belcher’s work about writing an article in twelve weeks (see https://wendybelcher.com/writing-advice/writing-your-journal-article-in-twelve/), this workshop is open to 8 faculty who plan to complete a scholarly writing project within this time frame. Faculty, who must apply to participate and provide a brief description of the project they hope to complete, will receive a modest stipend upon completion of the workshop. The workshop provides structured writing sessions, which can be attended remotely or in person, and which offer dedicated time and facilitated support for faculty to focus on scholarly writing in the company of colleagues. Participants will also receive 5 hours of editorial support for the completed project. To apply, fill out the application in Polaris and email it to ssu-research@salemstate.edu with "Finish It" in the subject line.
Winter Inter-session and Summer Inter-session Retreats
January 4 and May 24
These one-week writing retreats, which can be attended remotely or in person, offer dedicated time and editorial support for faculty to pursue a writing project in the company of colleagues. The sessions will begin with a check-in with participants introducing themselves, their writing projects, and specific needs for completing the projects during the retreats. For more information, email ssu-research@salemstate.edu with the subject "Inter-session Retreat."
