First-year and transfer students who entered Salem State University in either Spring 2016 or Fall 2016 who are eligible for membership in Alpha Lambda Delta, the national first-year honor society, have received their invitations to join this prestigious organization.
Every year, those new students who achieve at least a 3.5 semester GPA AND are in the top 20% of the incoming class are invited to become members of Alpha Lambda Delta. Students were sent letters to their home addresses and emails to their university email accounts notifying them of eligibility for membership.
This year, due to the stellar academic achievement of this year's incoming students, the top 20% of the class limited membership to first-year students with a 3.6 GPA or higher and transfer students with a 3.7 GPA or higher.
Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta has continued to celebrate academic excellence among first-year students and has grown to over 275 chapters and has initiated over one million students. Each year, the organization sponsors 36 undergraduate scholarships of $1,000-$6,000 each, 20 study-abroad scholarships of $1,000-$2,000, and 26 graduate fellowships from $3,000 to $7,500. Locally, the Alpha Lambda Delta chapter coordinates leadership and community service initiatives for it's members.
For students interested in joining the organization, membership acceptance forms and dues must be submitted no later than Tuesday February 7 to the First Year Experience Office, 100A Meier Hall.
