Olivia Jewett didn’t know what she wanted to study when she enrolled at Salem State, but eventually chose to major in media and communication with a minor in marketing. “It was an excellent decision,” she says. “I was surrounded by supportive professors, and it led to great opportunities.”
One of those opportunities was an internship with the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, where Olivia sharpened her skills in content creation and social media marketing. “It was extremely creative and fulfilling,” she says about the experience. “My colleagues were incredibly welcoming—they encouraged my creativity and made me feel like my voice was valued.”
Olivia graduated in the spring of 2022 and applied to a range of full-time marketing positions. “My degree made me realize how many options I have and provided me with the mentorship and network I needed to succeed,” she says. “Rebecca Hains, my advisor, helped tremendously with securing my internship at the Massachusetts Council on Gaming and Health, and she’s provided me crucial advice on how to approach the post-graduate job search.”
Olivia is excited about the prospective students who will follow in her footsteps. “If you have a certain niche or a specific thing you want to do, you’ll be excited to learn that Salem State most likely has a class for that—and professional pathways as well,” she says.
