First Year Experience is excited to announce that the 2022-2023 First Year Reading Experience (FYRE) book will be “College Rules! How to Study, Survive, and Succeed in College” by Sherrie Nist-Olejnik, PhD and Jod Patrick Holschuh, PhD.
College Rules! provides students with many of the tips, strategies, and advice based on research and experience. Whether it's how to ignite the fire of the learner within or discovering how the syllabus can be your best friend, students are provided a roadmap for success in the classroom and beyond. The "rules for studying" and learning will help support students as they make the transition to college level academics.
The FYRE program provides incoming first-year students with a common intellectual experience, shared with current members of the university community.
First-year students will receive the book at orientation along with information on future events and activities related to the themes of the book. First year seminar faculty will all receive a free copy of the book for use in first year seminar courses.
