SALEM, MASS – Salem State University played host to a highly successful teaching society conference in June. The Management and Organizational Behavior Teaching Society, or MOBTS, ran a conference in three Harrington Campus buildings from June 11 to 14, with more than 225 attendees staying in Charlotte Forten Hall, attending about 130 sessions run out of the Classroom/Bertolon School of Business building, and eating meals at the Marsh Hall dining commons.
“We successfully hosted one of the largest conferences in the history of Salem State,” said Ken Mullane, an associate professor of management at Salem State and MOBTS conference site chairperson. “It couldn’t have gone any better. We also had the smallest footprint possible – people were staying at Forten Hall, eating at Marsh Hall and all their sessions were in the Classroom Building.”
The Salem Trolley, a well-known trolley-centered tour company in downtown Salem, also provided tours to attendees, to give those on campus an opportunity to see the rest of Salem State’s host and namesake city.
MOBTS is “one of the few teaching societies that I know of,” Mullane said. “Every year, we get together at various places all over the United States to share best teaching practices, to discuss pedagogy, and to share stories.”
Kevin Lo, president of MOBTS, called the 51st running of the conference “a resounding success.”
“The small campus footprint contributed to the emotional intimacy amongst the attendees. With these strong connections, people received solid takeaways,” Lo said. “Much thanks and appreciation to our conference site chair and Society OB1, Salem State Associate Professor Ken Mullane, for his diligent planning and on-the-ground execution. His efforts were readily noticed and greatly enhanced our experience.”
