Swampscott resident Mary “Midge” DeSimone ‘76 has been appointed to Salem State University’s Board of Trustees, bringing extensive experience in accounting and finance. She will be replacing Alyce Davis, PhD, as the alumni trustee.
DeSimone is a 1976 graduate of Salem State, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English. She went on to receive her master’s in library science from Simmons College in 1978 and her master’s in business administration from Boston College in 1985.
“Salem State will greatly benefit from the knowledge and experience that Ms. DeSimone brings to the board, especially given her background in finance,” said Paul Mattera, chair of Salem State University’s Board of Trustees. “The board looks forward to working with Ms. DeSimone to continue building on years of positive momentum at Salem State.”
DeSimone has been a member of the Salem State Board of Overseers, the Planning Committee for the Salem State Wine Auction, and the co-chairperson of the Parents Committee of the Salem State Day Care Center. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Investment Committee of the Community Resources of Justice, and a member of the Advisory Committee on School Renovation and Construction for the town of Swampscott.
Most recently, DeSimone performed accounting and financial analysis for a local high-tech start-up. Previously, she worked with Groove Networks of Beverly, where she performed accounting and financial analysis for the high-tech start-up. DeSimone worked at Mellon Bank in Boston, directing the preparation of financial and business analyses of the mutual fund administration group. Beginning her career, DeSimone worked at Price Waterhouse Coopers, of Boston, and Lynn Hospital.
