The Center for Accessible Academic Resources

Sep 3, 2024

The Center for Accessible Academic Resources strives to provide enhanced academic support and accommodations, ensuring all students have the resources they need to succeed. This includes disability accommodations, peer tutoring, and supplemental instruction.

Key Service Areas

Academic and Campus Accommodations: Available for students who self-identify as having a disability and wish to request support. Services and accommodations that provide equal access to curriculum and campus experiences are determined through a review of documentation and an interactive meeting with the student.

Disability Access: Promotes an accessible experience by coordinating services and accommodations for visitors to Salem State and students. We encourage everyone to participate in our programs and activities. To request accommodations due to a disability or for questions about campus accessibility, please email access@salemstate.edu or call 978.542.6217.

Peer Tutors: Tutors are undergraduate students recommended by their faculty who excelled in the courses they tutor. They break down challenging material, offer study tips, and are eager to help you succeed.

Supplemental Instruction: Peer-led out-of-class sessions for select courses with historically challenging material. These sessions offer opportunities to review course concepts, engage in discussions with supportive peers, and prepare for exams.

I need an accommodation or accessibility assistance. How do I make an appointment?
To start the process of receiving accommodations, fill out an Initial Accommodation Request Form, and contact CAAR to schedule a meeting.

What kind of documentation might I need to get an accommodation or additional access?
Documentation and accommodations are not one-size-fits-all. The best course of action is to complete a request form, and a member of our staff will assist you in completing the necessary steps. Learn more about the intake process.

Is peer tutoring only for those receiving accommodations, and how much does it cost?
No! Peer tutoring is a free service available to all undergraduate students enrolled in courses for which we have a tutor. It offers a great opportunity to connect with your peers and receive extra help with classes.

How do I schedule a tutoring appointment?
Students can use the Navigate 360 Student website to schedule an appointment with Peer Tutoring. Learn how to schedule a peer tutoring appointment.
