Christine Sullivan Preparing for Retirement

Student Advocacy Update
Jul 20, 2018

After 21 years of service to the institution, Christine Sullivan, is preparing for retirement in November. We will share retirement celebration information with the community this Fall.  This July, Chris will continue her work supporting student success working within the Athletics Department through November. She will be assisting Chris Harvey in his new role as Student Athlete Recruiting and Retention Specialist to set up new practices supporting academic success for student athletes. Chris will also be working with our new Athletic Director, Tracey Hathaway, with alumni relations. Chris has been a dedicated Vikings fan for decades and we are thrilled to have her wisdom, expertise and connections to assist the Athletics department during their time of transition.

Chris Sullivan will continue to be a resource and liaison for SSU students who are dealing with homelessness and/or who are coming to college as unaccompanied youth until her retirement date. Please feel free to connect with Chris this summer and fall for consultation or to refer students in need of support. Her location will move to Athletics but her phone extension (X 7207) and email csullivan@salemstate.edu will remain the same.

Given these changes, the office of Student Advocacy will no longer be a standalone office within Student Life as of this Fall 2018. Student Life is hoping to be able to replace Student Advocacy functions in the future with a Student Life Case Manager who can provide outreach, consultation, support, and coordinated services for students who are facing personal challenges that are impacting their academics, as well as serve as a liaison for students dealing with homelessness and hunger.
