Dear Salem State Community,
On behalf of Salem State University’s Board of Trustees, I’m pleased to announce that John D. Keenan, JD, has been approved by the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education as Salem State University’s 14th president. He will begin his role as president in early August of 2017.
In announcing the appointment of John Keenan, we do so humbly, proudly, and with confidence that he will serve Salem State with honor and distinction.
In John Keenan, trustees saw a candidate with a record of advocacy for public higher education, meaningful experience as a strategic leader, effective fundraising skills, deep knowledge of the campus and community, and an ability to build needed partnerships with organizations most likely to employ Salem State students in the future.
Many of you who have worked with John in his current role as general counsel and vice president of administration know that in addition to being a strategic, dedicated leader, he is a collaborator committed to working together with you to advance the university’s mission.
Thank you again to all who took part in this crucial search. I look forward to turning our collective efforts toward ensuring Salem State’s continued success.
Sincerely,
Paul Mattera
Chair, Salem State University Board of Trustees
