Student climate activists from Sunrise Salem today expressed delight that Congressman Seth Moulton signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge.
Signatories’ of the Sunrise Movement’s No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge agree not to take contributions from the oil, gas and coal industry and instead prioritize the health of our families, climate and democracy over fossil fuel industry profits.
Congressman Moulton is already a co-sponsor of Senator Markey and Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Green New Deal resolution.
Joey Wolongevicz, Salem State student president of Sunrise Salem, was extremely happy with the outcome of Monday's Town Hall. Joey stated, “there are now more than 1000 politicians who have rejected fossil fuel money across the country. And we are delighted that Congressmen Moulton now stands on the right side of history in relation to fossil fuel money in politics.”
Professor Noel Healy of Salem State welcomed Congressman’s Moulton decision. Dr. Healy stated that, “Real climate leadership means no fossil fuel money.” And, “given that we have little over a decade to half our emissions we need bold climate leadership. This means challenging the obstructionism of the fossil fuel industry.”
Salem State University fully divested from fossil fuels in 2018 taking a national leadership role on climate change.
