Fall 2016 First-Year Writing Workshops

Helping Composition Students Manage Writing Stress
Nov 10, 2016

First-year composition students face all sorts of writing pressures in our courses—often alone since their affective experiences around writing don’t typically become part of regular course discussion. When not addressed, writing stress impacts student confidence and success both in the short- and long-term. In this workshop, we’ll discuss causes of anxiety, procrastination, and blocks by exploring the rhetorical context of the writing situation. Participants will be shown several methods to help students identify and address the causes of writing stress including different ways of thinking about audience and the chronology of writing. Thursday, December 1, 4-6 PM, MH 301. Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP apeary@salemstate.edu by Thursday, November 17.
