First Year Seminars are a high-impact teaching practice designed to improve the student learning experience. The seminars can also help improve retention, particularly for students in their first semester of studies.
Are you a full-time faculty member with a passion for helping students and an idea for an engaging "big question" topic that will get first year students excited about their academic studies and college journey? Consider talking with your department chair about adding a first year seminar to your fall teaching load.
To learn more about the first year seminar program, watch this informational video with Professor Elizabeth Blood, Faculty Fellow for First Year Seminars/Exploratory Program. You can also find more information on the First Year Seminar Polaris page including course goals, process for designing a seminar, ideas for settling on a seminar topic, and more.
We look forward to seeing your innovative course ideas!
