The Fine Wines and Fabulous Finds Auction, held on September 8 at the home of Andrea and Gary Gregory in Marblehead, raised over $104,000 from a combination of purchases and charitable donations to benefit the Richard Elia Endowed Scholarship at Salem State.
Up for auction were an array of fine wines and spirits as well as numerous trips, dinners, and artwork. All of the artwork was created by local artists.
The event paid special tribute to the auction’s creator Richard L. Elia, PhD, professor of Victorian Literature and publisher and president of Quarterly Review of Wines, who passed away in 2017.
“Richard’s guidance and expertise made each auction a remarkable success. We believe there is no better way to commemorate his legacy than raising funds for those most important to him, his students, surrounded by the things most loved by him, friends and wine,” said Cynthia McGurren, vice president of institutional advancement and executive director of the Salem State Foundation, Inc.
Attendees had the opportunity to sample wines throughout the silent and live auctions. Katherine Curley-Katzman ‘06 and Henry Dembowski ’60, ‘62G were the auctioneers for the evening.
