Harrington Building Closure Due to Enhanced Cleaning

October 29, 2020
Oct 29, 2020

Dear Campus Community,

An individual who has occupied spaces in the Harrington Building has since tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, we are suspending activity in the Harrington Building in order to conduct enhanced cleaning in accordance with CDC guidelines and are following the city of Salem’s Department of Health recommendations. All persons who have been identified as possible close contacts have already been notified and no other persons are deemed to have had direct exposure or be at an elevated risk for exposure. The enhanced cleaning of the Harrington Building will require us to close that building for the remainder of today, October 29 and tomorrow, October 30. Only a limited number of classes were scheduled in the Harrington Building. Professors of these classes have been notified, and they are in contact with their students to make alternate arrangements.

This same individual also occupied spaces on the fourth floor of Marsh Hall. These spaces are also closed out of an abundance of caution for enhanced cleaning. Students living on that floor have been redirected to use other facilities.

This individual was in both spaces from October 26-28. We encourage staff and students to take advantage of free on-campus testing this evening at O’Keefe from 3 – 7 pm, should you be concerned. Additional testing information is available on our site and can be scheduled through the CoVerified app.

Sincerely,

Gene Labonte

Assistant Vice President for Public Safety and Risk Management
