The social media student worker plays an important role in assisting the university’s web and social media team with the day-to-day creation, publishing and planning of social media campaigns and activities, increasing engagement among the university’s central audiences while advancing the area’s online marketing objectives. Training and team check-ins will be remote, but the social media student worker is expected to be in person to attend and cover campus events.
Internships duties/responsibilities:
• Create and curate short videos for social media, especially TikTok and Instagram, with a willingness to be on camera
• Capture and edit photos and video
• Promote and attend campus and community events to engage prospective students, current students and the external community
• Identify popular trends for university audiences
• Understanding and following Salem State branding/copyright guidelines
• Collaborate with campus partners and organizations to create content and highlight diversity
• Offer a unique student perspective to the marketing and creative services department
• Track analytics on social media posts
• Write several web stories/student profiles
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
• Experience creating TikTok videos and Instagram reels and stories
• Photography/video experience (Knowledge of the Adobe suite a plus but not required)
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong writing skills and creativity in developing visual content
• A basic understanding of social trends and a willingness to explore
• Comfortable adapting to new environments and people
• Comfortable approaching others to ask for their consent to be photographed/filmed
• Strong ability to communicate, collaborate and plan with others over email, Zoom calls and remote work methods
• Positive attitude and teamwork-focused approach
Goals/Expectations:
•1 TikTok/Instagram reel per week
• Arrange 1 Instagram takeover per semester
• Attend weekly social planning meetings remotely
• Report trends and bring ideas to the team
• Discuss upcoming projects and any roadblocks
