Dear Campus Community,
Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure the safety of Meier Hall prior to reopening the building. Late on Wednesday night, April 13, a facilities team member heard tiles fall from the wall next to the rear left staircase near the quad in Meier Hall and then observed a significant crack in the same wall.
We spent yesterday and today consulting with an engineering firm and with the State Building Inspector, both of whom examined the affected space and adjacent area. So that this evaluation and any needed repairs can be conducted fully and thoroughly, Meier Hall will remain closed for the remainder of the spring 2022 semester. All classes scheduled to occur in Meier Hall will be held remotely.
We commend this member of our campus for promptly reporting this issue so that we could take quick action and close the building immediately. Safety remains our top priority at Salem State, and while we know this is a challenging change during a difficult time, we must put safety first and take every precaution possible.
Thank you,
