Dear Campus Community,
Please join the Salem State community for an interfaith peace vigil to remember the victims lost as a result of heinous acts of hate in Pittsburgh and Kentucky over the past several days. This vigil will be an opportunity to reflect on the lives lost; to pray for the families, friends and communities affected; and to commit to doing all that we can to end the hatred that drove these senseless acts of violence.
In a social media post on Monday, linked here, President Keenan asked all of us to be part of the solution to “advancing respect and dignity for each individual.” These incomprehensible acts of hate were also attacks on the right to live and believe authentically. The fabric of our country is made up of the ability to think, study, love, worship and organize as we choose without fear, and it is up to all of us to stand up for these rights.
The peace vigil will be held on Thursday, November 1st at 5 pm, at the commuter lounge in the Ellison Campus Center. All are welcome. If you have any questions about this event, please contact our university chaplain, Laura Biddle, at 978.542.6129 or lbiddle@salemstate.edu.
Please join us as we honor the lives of those we have lost and pray for peace.
