Salem State Rugby Club Vies for Championship

The Vikings will soon vie for a national Small College Rugby Organization championship, playing games on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 at Founders Field, just outside of Pittsburgh. The 35-player Salem State squad , in just its third season,  compiled an 8-0 regular-season record and has high hopes for the championship round.

The campus community will get a chance to see the Vikings in action prior to the Pittsburgh trip. “We will have one home game and one away before the championship,” announced Michelle Cunningham, the university’s intramural and club sports coordinator. The home game is at 7:30 pm Saturday, April 2 when Salem State hosts the North Shore Rugby club at Alumni Field. The away match takes place Saturday, April 9, at Babson College in Wellesley.

Following the nationals, Salem State will host rival Endicott at 7 pm. Friday, April 29. “We would love to get as much of the campus community out to these games as possible,” Cunningham added. She also pointed out that a link will be provided to access live stream of the two championship matches in Pittsburgh.
