Prof. Cindy Vincent (Communications) Receives Teaching Award

Professor Cindy Vincent (Communications) has been awarded a teaching award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Mass Communication and Society (MCS) Division for her work in service-learning. The award is part of the MCS Division Service-Learning Grant program, which assists faculty by providing a $500 stipend to use in their service-learning courses. These grants are intended to offset a portion of the costs for working with communities, nonprofit clients, schools and governmental bodies in the classroom. Vincent received the award to continue her service-learning project between her sections of the media literacy course and Horace Mann Laboratory School (HMLS). The project partners SSU students with HMLS students to create civic media that address issues of importance within our community and will continue throughout the 2016-2017 academic year.
