Come celebrate the four students who received the 2016 First-Year Writing Award! Students will present a reading from their winning pieces. After the reading, we discuss the rationale and strategies for encouraging first-year composition students to take their writing out of the classroom through publication and other opportunities. Publication opportunities increase students’ confidence, increase authenticity of task, and teach critical lessons about audience and the rhetorical situation. Examples of both on- and off-campus resources supporting undergraduate publication will be provided. Monday, November 7, 11 am-12:30 pm, Meier Hall 249E. Light refreshments will be provided.
