In any interview, you’re likely to be asked “So, do you have any questions?” Career Services highly recommends having 2-3 questions to ask the interviewer at the end. It is always good to have a handful ready, just in case one or two of your questions get answered early on in the interview. Here are some general questions Career Services recommends:

  1. How would you describe the culture of your organization?
  2. What is your organization’s philosophy regarding internal promotion and growth opportunities?
  3. How did you get your start in the company, and what do you like about working there?

These kinds of questions will help you learn more about what it might be like to work in the organization and determine if you could see yourself there!

What about informational interviews or during career fairs?

  1. What type of entry level positions/internships exist within your organization for students majoring in_______?
  2. Have you hired Salem State University students in the past?
  3. What are the important skills or experiences needed for the position?
  4. Could you please give me an idea about your hiring process and timeline?

Asking the recruiter questions shows an interest in the organization, but it is also important to remember that while they’re interviewing you, you are also interviewing them to see if you would like to work there!
