Salem State University’s Glassworks Studio will host the third Rosenberg Institute for Passionate and Emerging Artists this summer. Through the generous support of Ira and Judy Rosenberg four glass artists will be in residence for the month of July, living on campus and creating new work in the university’s state of the art glassblowing studio.
The residency provides an opportunity for the artists to fully explore an idea or a series of ideas in glass, free from economic constraints. They work in the glassblowing studio daily and in collaboration with one another. This extraordinary amount of dedicated studio time is unique and affords these artists the opportunity to further develop their creative voice in the medium of glass.
The four artists-in-residence for the 2015 Rosenberg Institute include two Massachusetts residents, David Benyosef and Sarah Michalik. They will be joined by Grant Garmezy from Richmond, Virginia and Kit Paulson from Chicago, Illinois.
Glass blowing is a unique spectator event with equal amounts artistry and suspense.
The public will have an opportunity to watch the artists at work in a series of open demonstrations. These will be held Monday evenings, July 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 6 pm. The July 27 event includes an artist’s reception at 5:30. Admission to the artists’ demos is free.
The Glassworks Studio is located in the Enterprise Center, Suite 750 at 121 Loring Avenue.
