Salem State University’s music and dance department presents its first Massachusetts High School Dance Festival on Sunday, November 14. The event will run from 10 am until 3 pm in the O’Keefe Center, 225 Canal Street.

The festival is open to dancers age 14+ and will include rigorous and inclusive workshops taught by Salem State dance faculty and an informal student concert. This festival is supported, in part, by the Massachusetts Dance Education Organization (MADEO), the state chapter of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO). MADEO will offer a workshop exclusively for dance teachers at the event.

Dance program coordinator Meghan Mclyman shares that, “The Massachusetts High School Dance Festival is a unique opportunity for teens to participate in a non-competitive atmosphere. Master classes in modern, hip hop and jazz dance, and taught by Salem State University faculty, will support each student's unique talents while creating a supportive community among the group. The informal concert provides the dancers a chance to display their artistry and creativity, and each dance performed will receive supportive feedback from the faculty.”

The festival registration fee is $25 per student participant. Registration and additional information are available at www.salemstatetickets.com. The deadline to register is November 10. The Massachusetts High School Dance Festival will observe COVID-19 safety protocol as set by Salem State University, including mandatory indoor mask use. Participants will be updated of any changes.
