Salem State Faculty Study School Counselors' Perceptions of Nursing as a Career

Aug 24, 2017

Cheryl Williams of the School of Nursing and Laurie Dickstein-Fischer of the School of Education (school counseling) published results of a regional study examining school counselors’ perceptions of nursing as a health career choice. The article, “A call for future nurses: School counselors’ perceptions of the nursing role,” was published in the Journal of Professional Nursing. Among their findings, many school counselors lack important information regarding secondary educational preparation for middle and high school students interested in nursing. As a result, stronger collaborations between nursing educators and counselors are needed. Their national study was also accepted for publication in the Nurse Educator.
