School of Education Becomes a Registered Provider of Professional Development Points

Oct 8, 2015

In June 2015 the Salem State University School of Education became a registered provider of Professional Development Points (PDPS) with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As a registered provider, the School of Education is now responsible for the record keeping and distribution of all PDP certificates issued by Salem State University. If you are planning a workshop or conference and would like to offer PDP certificates to your attendees you must submit the attached request at least two months prior to the scheduled date of the event. Your request will be reviewed by the School of Education and you will be notified of a decision within a few weeks.

Please be advised that  our registration with ESE authorizes us to award Professional Development Points (PDPs) to Massachusetts educators. Please note that PDPs should only be awarded to an educator for professional development that includes all of the following:

  • A minimum of 10 hours,
  • An assessment of learning (which may be an end-of-course assessment or an observable demonstration of learning), and
  • Evidence that a participant has met the provider's criteria for mastery.

In order to process your request, please be sure to include the following information on the PDP request form:

  • Provider name listed on the registry
  • Participant’s name
  • Title of the professional development offering
  • Content area(s)
  • Total number of PDPs awarded
  • Dates and hours in attendance
  • A brief statement of learning goals and objective(s)
  • A description of the assessment of learning and criteria for mastery
  • Signature of provider

In the next few days, we will be updating our website to include information about  PDP certificates,  and the application process for your workshop or conference. In the meantime, please visit the DESE PD website http://www.doe.mass.edu/pd/ regularly for PD updates and resources designed to support your work.
