Gassett Fitness Center Member Programming: Pickleball I 5:30-7 pm
Calling all Gassett Fitness Center members, come play pickleball! We are offering co-curricular activities for all membership types. Whether you are a current student, alumni, faculty/staff, retiree, or other, you are invited to participate in this series of programs.
Established in 2002 by the Rome Statute, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague investigates and prosecutes individuals charged with the gravest international crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of aggression. This talk will explore the court’s history, its functions and jurisdiction, and the role of the Office of the Prosecutor. In particular, the webinar will discuss the recent application of the Office of the Prosecutor for arrest warrants pertaining to the war in Gaza.

The new center consolidates all the SSU writing and writing support programs and seeks to promote, foster, and nurture a culture that values writing and the teaching of writing at the university and in the Greater Salem community.

Panel Discussion: Hispanic-Latino/a/e/x : What's in the Label? I 3:30-4:30 pm
The history of terms--from AfroLatino to Xicanx—reveals the heterogeneity of peoples and the power of collective and individual identification. This panel, part of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month, will discuss why and how we use labels and the ways that people of Brazilian, Cape Verdean, and Haitian background do and do not relate to terms such as Hispanic, Latino/e/x, and Afro-Latinx.
SSU Chief of Police Swearing In Ceremony I 4-6 pm
President Keenan and the Board of Trustees of Salem State University cordially invites campus community members to the swearing-in of fourth generation Viking, Chief Trish Murphy ’06 in the Sophia Gordon Center for the Creative and Performing Arts.

Talk: What’s Going On With Immigration? Is It a "Crisis"? I 3:30-4:30 pm
This talk, hosted by Avi Chomsky PhD of Salem State's history department, will demystify facts and debates about immigration, including how it's become such a hot-button issue, policies the US has implemented, changes in immigration patterns over the past 20 years, and how pervasive myths distort the way we think about the topic.
This event is part of Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month.

The American Library Association's theme for Banned Books Week 2024 (September 22-28) is "Freed Between the Lines." Read a banned or a challenged book and join us in a discussion. This event is open to SSU community.
Participants can read banned books through SSU library, NOBLE public libraries, or Boston public library eBook collection. Ask a librarian!

Program coordinators for the Emerging Scholars Program are leading a board game night! Kick back and enjoy a fun event with games, snacks and new friends!
This workshop offers healthcare practitioners techniques for exploration with a variety of materials and sensory engagements with the goal of improving health, well-being and functional status of older adults and persons faced with physical, cognitive and emotional health challenges. Demonstrations of techniques to generate embodied engagement in small group practice - breath-work, simple bilateral stimulation movements, voice activation, sounding exercises, and sensory stimulation. We’ll explore playful, failure free processes that harness strengths and capabilities, and boost self-esteem. A person-centered Montessori approach- choice, quality materials, environment organized for success-enables adults to find creative voice and reclaim agency.

Lecture Series - Holocaust Archaeologies I 6:30-8 pm
The investigation of Holocaust sites using archaeological methods has emerged in recent years as a new sub-discipline. In this lecture, Professor Caroline Sturdy Colls will discuss her work at two sites of persecution – Treblinka and Alderney – highlighting how innovative, interdisciplinary approaches have led to new spatial, historical and material understandings of these landscapes of mass violence.
