Emmanuel was born and raised in Nigeria, where he completed his undergraduate studies in banking and finance and an advanced degree in management. He worked as a finance professional at the Center for Clinical Care and Clinical Research in Abuja, Nigeria for five years before coming to the United States. He spent a year studying in Louisiana before finding Salem State University.

Why Salem State?

Its competitive environment motivated me to move here, and it has been the best experience so far! I chose Salem State University for its strong blend of academics, community engagement, and supportive environment, which aligns with my personal and professional goals. With a background in finance and management, I value institutions that offer both a solid academic foundation and practical opportunities for collaboration. The university's proximity to Boston also grants access to a dynamic business ecosystem, essential for expanding my network and exploring career opportunities.

What do you enjoy most about the program?

With a bachelor's in banking and finance and a master’s in management, I chose to major in business administration to compliment my career goals and passion for solving complex financial problems. My experience as a finance officer highlighted the importance of sound financial management for business success, fueling my desire to deepen my expertise and understand strategic business aspects. I particularly enjoy the program’s blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application. Courses like Operations Management and Consumer Behavior challenge me to think critically and analytically, while collaborative projects allow me to apply my learning in real-world scenarios.

What has been a favorite moment of yours at Salem State?

One of my favorite moments at Salem State University was participating in the Hispanic and Minority Serving Institution Conference, where I had the opportunity to connect with people and network with the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts.

What are you hoping to do after you graduate?

After graduation, I aim to leverage my advanced knowledge in finance and management to make a significant impact in the business world. I am particularly interested in roles involving strategic financial planning, project management, and organizational development. I envision contributing to a forward-thinking organization where I can drive growth and innovation. Additionally, I am actively networking and exploring opportunities within Boston's vibrant business community, which I believe will be crucial in achieving my career goals.

What advice would you give to incoming students?

To incoming students, I recommend actively engaging with campus life and attending events to enrich your experience. Seek support when needed and remain open to diverse perspectives to broaden your understanding. Stay organized to manage your time effectively and pursue your passions to make your college journey fulfilling. Building relationships with peers will be invaluable for your personal and professional growth. Make the most of every opportunity and enjoy your journey at Salem State!

What advice would you give to other international students?

For international students out here in SSU, I know it can be overwhelming to blend in with cultural, climate and environmental differences. My advice is to be patient. Set your goals, but don’t push too hard. Take it as a chapter and handle it day by day. When you have the chance to smile and have fun, please do it, as it helps relieve mental stress.
