Student Reporters Showcase Their Work Online

Nov 10, 2015

This fall COM 371, the department’s advanced news reporting and writing class, launched a multimedia website where students’ articles, photos, and – soon – video and audio will be featured.

Professor Jane Regan said she and the students chose the name “SSU Viking Voice” and that so far the site – http://ssuvikingvoice.weebly.com/ – has run almost a dozen stories and a half-dozen slideshows. All of them focus on news and events on and around campus.

“We’re proud of the work so far,” Regan said. “The student-reporters recently scooped other media with a report on sexual assault, they’ve profiled a cafeteria worker, publicized the amount of money going to student groups, written about student debt and drugs on campus and also taken some great photos.”

So far the Salem Patch has picked up several stories.
