As part of a nationwide unemployment benefits fraud scheme, criminal enterprises are using stolen personal information to try to fraudulently file unemployment claims in Massachusetts.

If you believe someone is using your identity or your department employee information to falsely claim unemployment benefits, learn how to report the fraud and what to do to protect yourself. If you received correspondence regarding unemployment, though you have not filed, please report potential fraud.

Report unemployment benefits fraud

If you believe your identity has been stolen and you are a victim of fraud, you can protect yourself by reporting identity theft to law enforcement, creditors, credit agencies, and government agencies.

  • Contact the Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) through their Fraud Reporting Form or at 877-626-6800.
  • Contact Salem State University Human Resources via email at eo-hr@salemstate.edu.
  • Contact Salem State University Police at 978-542-6111.
  • Contact the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office has information about protecting yourself, including reporting the theft and freezing your credit.
