Dear Members of the Salem State Community,
Due to continued concerns regarding COVID-19, I am writing to let you know that the majority of Summer Session II (July 6, 2020 to August 15, 2020) courses, will be offered exclusively online. This applies to both graduate and undergraduate courses. Online fees for Summer II courses have been removed.
A very limited number of courses for which hands-on learning is essential in order to meet discipline-specific regulatory requirements will be offered as in-person instruction, either in part or in full. Students enrolled in these courses will be notified directly.
The decision to offer a limited number courses for in-person instruction has been made in consultation with leadership in academic affairs, public safety and risk management, and counseling and health services. Given the need for clear health and safety protocols for any face-to-face learning activities, all courses offered for in-person instruction will be subject to a rigorous planning process that conforms to all public health and safety guidelines in place for July and August 2020. Students will be notified of health and safety guidelines prior to the start of class and all such protocols will be strictly enforced.
We hope to be teaching back on campus more fully in September but are monitoring the situation carefully and planning for multiple scenarios as the health and safety of the entire Salem State community remains our top priority.
Please contact us at ce@salemstate.edu with any questions on any undergraduate summer courses, and graduate@salemstate.edu for questions on graduate courses.
Thank you,
David J. Silva
Provost and Academic Vice President
