Update on Summer Session II

May 10, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

Upon consultation with the COVID-19 Task Force, and placing a priority on the health and safety of our community, I am writing to announce that the majority of courses offered in Summer Session II (July 6 - August 15) will be delivered online.

Please note that while the majority of courses will be online, a very limited number of Summer II courses may be approved for in-person instruction. Courses that will be considered for in-person instruction are ones for which hands-on learning is essential in order for students to meet course objectives. Top priority will be given to courses for which the learning outcomes are directly governed by a licensure-driven accreditation or regulatory body.

DGCE Chairs and Graduate Program Coordinators for academic units within which such courses exist who would like to have a course considered for in-person instruction (either in part or in full) are invited to submit a request to Monica Leisey, Interim Dean, School of Graduate Studies (for graduate courses) or Barbara Layne, Interim Dean, School of Continuing and Professional Studies (for undergraduate courses). All such requests must be made by Monday, May 11 at 5 pm

Requests will be reviewed by leadership in Academic Affairs, Public Safety and Risk Management, and Counseling and Health Services. Given the need for clear health and safety protocols for any face-to-face learning activities, all courses approved for in-person instruction will be subject to a planning process that conforms to all public health and safety guidelines in place (or anticipated to be in place) for July and August 2020. More information will be provided to the instructors, chairpersons/program coordinators, and deans as appropriate.

The Registrar’s Office is in the process of updating the Summer Session II online schedule to reflect changes in class delivery modalities. We anticipate these updates to be complete by the close of business on Friday, May 15, 2020. Many thanks for your patience as we record these most recent changes.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me at provost@salemstate.edu with any questions.

Sincerely,

David J. Silva, PhD

Provost and Academic Vice President
