Dear Students,
As we continue to repopulate campus, I am excited to let you know that limited on-campus dining has begun this week.
Our new dining provider is Sodexo, with Gabby McDonough returning as dietitian and catering manager – welcome back, Gabby! – and many familiar faces joining her on the dining team. We are happy to have you at Salem State!
Our partnership with Sodexo upholds many of the features that were put in place during last year’sreview, which were based on significant campus input, including:
- Requirements to meet a high level of food quality, freshness and variety
- Offering gluten-free and vegetarian options in Marsh Dining for each meal
- Access to food 24/7 in Marsh Dining
- A designated dietitian
One new feature this year will be the ability to use the Starbucks app with rewards (in addition to Clipper Cash andDollars).

** North Campus
This fall, North Campus will offer lunch service only in the food court. This means that full service at Lower North will not be in place and there will be no food service in the faculty/staff dining room.
Public Health and Safety Guidelines
We are following Massachusetts restaurant guidelines related to how our food service can operate during the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, these guidelines allow for take-out, physically distanced outdoor dining, and limited physically distanced indoor dining. State and local guidelines for food service are subject to change and we will communicate with you as changes occur. Masks are required in any shared spaces on campus, including all dining locations. As with all restaurants at this time, please be prepared to wait in a single file physically distance line (minimum 6 feet) that may extend outside of the building during peak times. And yes, masks are required while waiting in line and when entering and exiting dining facilities.
Please note that the Sodexo website is still in process and will be published soon.
I want to thank all members of the dining task force for their work this summer creating a dining RFP and establishing this new partnership.
Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback about Viking Dining.
Sincerely,
Carla Panzella, PhD
