A fall 2022 welcome message from Salem State University President John Keenan:
Dear Viking Students,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 academic year!
Whether you are returning to Salem State or joining us for your first year, we are so glad that you are part of our Viking community!
There is nothing quite like the start of a new academic year, a time of new beginnings, and new possibilities. This year, there is even more anticipation, as we return to a more traditional college experience after more than two years of physical distancing and largely virtual gatherings.
As we begin the fall term, I encourage you to become engaged with our community. Access campus resources such as the Center for Civic Engagement, the Center for Justice and Liberation, First Year Experience, and Student Life – all of which offer incredible opportunities for you to make new friends and be involved on campus.
In addition to the offices mentioned above, we have an amazing Center for Creative and Performing Arts, which offers world-class programs and events throughout the academic year; a state-of-the-art Gassett Fitness Center with loads of opportunities to participate in group classes and special events; and a collection of 15 different athletic teams, all of whom would love to see you in the stands.
So many opportunities await you. I encourage you to get to know your classmates and your professors. Be open to new ideas. Participate in events. And of course – go to class!
The beginning of the academic year is a fresh start.
It starts right here, right now.
I look forward to seeing you on campus!
Sincerely,
John D. Keenan
President
