The Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation, Inc. (AAF) board of directors recently appointed Waltham resident Yaqin (Liz) Zhu ’12, ’13 as its newest member. Zhu graduated from Salem State with bachelor’s degrees in business management with concentrations in marketing and accounting and has since been a staunch advocate and ambassador for the university.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my experience and diverse background to the board,” said Zhu. “I was a first-generation, international exchange student, so it’s important for me to share my journey with other international students and showcase the AAF’s incredible impact on Viking student success.”
After graduating, Zhu received her master’s degree from Bentley and currently works at Ernst and Young as an FSO tax manager, implementing tax strategies that align with her clients’ business objectives. She met her husband, Zhou, also an international exchange student, while attending Salem State. The pair now have a four-year-old daughter.
The Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that promotes pride in the university and inspires philanthropy to invest in student success. Zhu’s professional experience in accounting will add value to the audit and finance committee, which assists the board in fulfilling oversight responsibilities related to financial reporting and compliance.
“I am excited to have Yaqin join the board of directors,” said Cheryl Webster, executive director of the Salem State University Alumni Association and Foundation, Inc. “She has a desire to impact current and future generations of Vikings and has expressed an interest in working with students on career planning, which is a real asset to our community. The board is honored to have her expertise and passion for giving back.”
