Information about the peer mentor program
Peer Mentors are a group of highly trained Salem State students who work with undergraduate students on a walk-in basis to help with general academic advising and student support. The Peer Mentoring program is a great opportunity for students to connect with the Salem State Community and plan for academic success. Coming from a variety of majors and backgrounds, the Peer Mentors are able to help a diverse group of students for the duration of their time at Salem State.
Getting Help from a Peer Mentor
Peer Mentors are available Monday through Friday to help students on a walk-in basis. No appointment is required to meet with a Peer Mentor. There are some situations where we recommend meeting with a professional Academic Advisor and this may require an appointment.
Peer Mentors can help students with the following:
- Navigator, Canvas and student email support
- Degree Tracker (What classes should I be taking?)
- What-If Scenarios (I’m thinking about switching my major. What will that look like?)
- Class searches
- Registering for math and reading competency tests
- Pre-advising and building a course shopping cart
- Transfer Equivalency Viewer (Taking courses outside of Salem State)
