Frederick Meier Award
2023 winner: Abigail Allworth ’25
This award is endowed by the family of Frederick A. Meier. Dr. Meier was a part of the Salem State from faculty member to president. There are two awards in the amount of $750 each, one to a chemistry major and one to a biology major.
The awards will be announced at the end of the spring semester so that they can be used during the next year. The award can be used in a single semester or spread out over two semesters. The two annual awards of $750 will be awarded according to the principles and guidelines on the application form, which can be obtained from the department office.
It is given to the most outstanding junior or senior chemistry major to be used for tuition, books, conference expenses, or research costs.
ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry Undergraduate Award
2024 winner: Abigail Allworth ’25
This is awarded to the most outstanding analytical chemistry student. The winning student receives an award certificate, a monthly email update from the division and a souvenir item.
American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award
2024 winner: Kevin Paratore ’24
This award is given to the most outstanding senior chemistry major. The winning student receives a certificate and a one year Student Associate membership in the AIC.
ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry Undergraduate Award
2024 winner: Leah Coffey ’25
This is awarded to the most outstanding inorganic chemistry student. The winning student receives an award certificate and a letter of commendation from the Division Chair.
ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Award
2024 winner: Felicia Meyerriecks ’24
This is awarded to the most outstanding organic chemistry student. The winning student receives an award certificate and a letter of commendation from the Division Chair.
ACS Division of Physical Chemistry Undergraduate Award
2024 winner: Leah Coffey ’25
This is awarded to the most outstanding physical chemistry student. The winning student receives an award certificate and a letter of commendation from the Division Chair.
Junior Biochemistry Award
2024 winner: Michael Zarro ’24
This is awarded by the department of chemistry and physics to the most outstanding junior student studying biochemistry.
Department Outstanding Physics Minor
2024 winner: Josh Sargent ’25
This is awarded by the department of chemistry and physics to the most outstanding Physics Minor.
Department 100% Award
2024 winner: Joseph Tadesse ’24
This is awarded by the department of chemistry and physics to the student who most gave it their all.
