SSU BOLD will breathe new life into the Horace Mann building by transforming it into a state-of-the-art facility for the majority of the Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services including: criminal justice, healthcare studies, occupational therapy, and nursing programs. The original home of the historic Horace Mann Laboratory School, the building has been vacant since 2017, and the prime piece of real estate is set for a significant overhaul that will reflect a 21st century education.
Interior renovations will result in
- 5 General Purpose Flexible Classrooms
- 2 Computer Classrooms
- 5 Office Suites
- 2 Bedside Skills Labs
- 2 Nursing Simulation Suites
- 1 Occupational Therapy Lab
- 5 Student Hubs
Exterior renovations and HVAC repairs are consistent with emerging standards necessary to reach our clean energy goals, continuing the progress we have made in the sustainability of our campus buildings.

Housing these programs in the Horace Mann Building also eliminates travel time from South Campus and provides students easier access to supporting lab coursework in Meier Hall and other programs. It also allows for easier cross departmental collaborations in areas of mutual interest, such as cybercrime, green chemistry, and climate resiliency.
