Welcome to the Salem State's Center for Creative and Performing Arts. Whether you are visiting to enjoy a theatre production, dance performance, music concert, writers series readings or unique artwork, the Center for the Arts provides diverse, high quality and affordable events in theatre, dance, music, creative writing, and art for all members of the university community and the greater North Shore. We produce nearly 70 events each year featuring work by students, faculty and world-class guest artists.
Tickets
Ticketed events include dance concerts, music guest artists and theatre productions (view general ticket costs below). Admission is free for writer series events, student concerts, and the Winfisky Gallery.

- $10 for seniors (62 and above)
- Free admission for those:
- With a Salem State student ID
- Anyone under the age of 18
- All other college/university students with a student ID
- Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more
Venues
Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts
The Sophia Gordon Center is a 432 seat state-of-the-art theatre located at 352 Lafayette Street on North Campus.
Callan Theatre
The 90-seat black box theatre is located in the basement of the Sullivan Building, at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Loring Avenues on North Campus. The entrance is located next to the Sophia Gordon Center, on 114 East (352 Lafayette Street).
Ellison Campus Center
The Ellison Campus Center is located on North Campus directly behind the Sophia Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts and next to the Frederick E. Berry Library and Learning Commons. It houses the Winfisky Gallery and many of our creative writing events are hosted here.
Winfisky Gallery
The Winfisky Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Ellison Campus Center (North Campus). Gallery hours are 10 am-4 pm, Monday through Friday or by appointment. Call: 978.542.7890 for additional information.
Recital Hall
The 165 seat Recital Hall is located on the ground floor of the Central Campus Classroom Building, 71 Loring Avenue (Route 1A).
Guests of arts events taking place in the Recital Hall are welcome to park in the lot located on Loring Ave., next to the Salem Diner and directly across from the entrance to 71 Loring Ave.
O'Keefe Complex
Many of our dance workshops and programs are held in the O'Keefe Complex located at 225 Canal Street. Dance performances also take place in the Sophia Gordon Center. Parking is available in the O'Keefe Complex lot for evening and weekend dance events at O'Keefe.
