Program Overview
Salem State University is proud to host The Salem Pantry Pop-Up, a weekly cost-free, mobile food pantry that brings fresh produce and healthy shelf-stable food directly to the campus and surrounding community. Salem State partners with the The Salem Pantry on this initiative to address food insecurity in Salem and at Salem State.
The stand is available every Wednesday, from 10 am to 12 pm on Salem State’s campus at 68 Loring Avenue across from Central Campus. The Salem Pantry Pop-Up operates much like a traditional food pantry with food being provided to Salem residents and Salem State students, faculty, and staff at no cost. Food is delivered to the above location and is generally displayed in a farmer’s market format for selection and is distributed by volunteers. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, prepacked shares and a small amount of choice will be available in place of a total self-selection model until further notice.
The intent of The Salem Pantry Pop-Up is to offer food to those in need at more convenient locations throughout the City of Salem. Please check The Salem Pantry website or follow their Facebook and Instagram to get updates on the pop-up locations and schedule throughout the year.
Salem State students, faculty, and staff are asked to show their ClipperCard to access food. City of Salem residents will be asked to complete a one-time registration form upon arrival.
Volunteers are needed to assist with setup, food distribution and breakdown. Please contact Samantha Johanson, Manager of Operations, or visit The Salem Pantry website if you have questions or are interested in learning more.
